Do You Have The Courage?
Yesterday I met with a friend who is recording my audio version of the Money Momentum Workshop for me. She recently wrote a column in a magazine (here is the link) and after reading it I was so impressed with her courage, I had to write about it!
Here is the dictionary definition: courage; also known as bravery, fortitude, will, and intrepidity, is the ability to confront fear, pain, risk/danger, uncertainty, or intimidation.
How many of you would be willing to be brave enough to expose yourself - have the fortitude to publicly admit that you have not always made the right choices when it comes to money.
Here's the thing, being accountable and actually admitting to yourself that there is a problem is the first step. It's the hardest - I know from my own experience.
When it comes to money, we don't talk about it. It's never brought up in conversation - unless we are complaining how much we don't have or how we wished we had more. For a lot of us - it was not talked about at home, or 'the men' took care of the money. My grandmother did not know how to write a cheque when my grandfather died - he handled all the money matters in the household.
One of my past participants in my workshop nailed exactly how I think a lot of women feel when you finally start talking about it... "I feel like I have just come out of the closet!" she said with years of tears falling down her cheeks. At 59 years old - she was not in the financial position in her life that she had envisioned in her 20's... or more importantly, where she thought she should be based on societal paradigms.
There is so much shame and guilt that we carry around because we know somewhere inside of us, we should know better. The daily stress and anxiety is massive over not having enough savings, or not having enough assets. Most don’t realize their beliefs and attitudes about money - either conscious or not - are sabotaging their success.
If you feel like 'something' might be getting in the way of your financial dreams and you can't figure it out... in most cases look in the mirror. You are that 'something' that gets in your way. The good news is that when you do shine a light on it and confront it - magic happens!
